October 24, 2002 Joe Dimaggio Children’s Hospital, Halloween Visit
Arriving in costumes with Halloween crafts and 25 goody bags prepared by the girls at an earlier craft workshop, we spent the afternoon celebrating Halloween with the children at Joe Dimaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood. We helped the children decorate starchy-gauze ghosts, foam door hangers shaped like Frankenstein and haunted mansions, made beaded skeleton necklaces, played games, joked and chatted. Hospital visits are a favorite of the miracle workers because of the face to face interaction with the patients.
October 13, 2002 Last Dance, a play by Lauren Shawcross, inspired by Margaux Grossman
Margaux’s Miracle member, Lauren Shawcross, was one of three finalists in the VSA arts Playwright Discovery Program. The plays were to be written about overcoming an illness or a disability. Lauren’s play, ‘Last Dance’ was based on Margaux’s battle with cancer. Each play was read aloud by actors in front of an audience at The Rinker Playhouse at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. Margaux’s Miracle members joined Lauren in viewing her touching and beautifully written play.
August 2002 Back to School for Our Adopted Family
To help the four children of our adopted family get a jumpstart on the school year, we sent them all the back to school necessities. New clothing, school supplies and back packs were donated.
April 18, 2002 Margaux’s Miracle Day in Miami
We shared our day with Miami members who are hoping to start a branch of Margaux’s Miracle in that city. We first visited the Miami Children’s Hospital where we donated our 6 handmade baby quilts for use in special care wards for infants (neonatal, cardiac, etc.). We then teamed with University of Miami coed and beauty pageant contestant, Jenna Edwards and her program, “Queen for a Day”. Also joining us was Craig Adler a hairdresser and makeup artist from the area. At Baptist Hospital, our members brought cheer and confidence to hospitalized young girls by using make-up and nail polish, chitchat, and feather boas. Jenna recently appeared in “People” magazine and on the “Oprah” television show.
March 18, 2002 Pillow Playmates Donated to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Department
During Spring Break Margaux’s Miracle traveled to West Palm Beach to the administrative offices of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Department. In tow were our nine Pillow Playmates. We presented Undersheriff William Tremer, Major Daniel Smith and Deputy Carol Verdiggi with our donation which will be used in the problem oriented policing unit. These are the first giveaway “huggables” to be used in Palm Beach County. The department was genuinely thrilled to be able to pass them along to needy children. Filming our presentation was channel 10 news in conjunction with a story on Margaux’s Miracle being prepared by Kristi Krueger and her producer.
March 9, 2002 Juvenile Diabetes Walk
Several members of Margaux’s Miracle joined “Team Halper” for the annual 3K Juvenile Diabetes Walk in Boca Raton. Margaux’s Miracle member, Alyssa Halper and her family, have participated in the event for the past few years for little brother Jared who has juvenile diabetes.
February 18, 2002 Making Pillow Playmates at Penelope’s Breads and Threads
Once again Margaux’s Miracle returned to Penelope’s Breads and Threads for a day of sewing. This time the project was a little different. Owners of the store, Penny and Bebby, had arranged for us to make Pillow Playmates. These stuffed toys are carried in sheriff cars and fire trucks to give to children in traumatic or stressful situations. Because of its arms and legs when you give the Pillow Playmate a hug it gives you a hug back. There were ten Pillow Playmates completed with nine girls working on the project.

December 15, 2001 Margaux’s First Garage Sale and Holiday Bazaar
This idea began as a brainstorm by Susan and Olivia Liggio at our first meeting. Thanks to the generosity of Vice Principal Doug Markwardt, we were able to use the parking lot of Spanish River High School. This event was a combination multi family garage sale, holiday craft bazaar and bake sale. From late November through mid December our members participated in four craft workshops during which we made bath salts, bath oil, handcrafted soap, decoupage soap, candy cane reindeer, decorated magnets and pushpins, dog and cat treat gifts, cookies in a jar and TV mix. Each family contributed gift baskets with their own theme for our Basket Boutique table. 15 families cleaned their attics, garages and closets and set up their own tables in the parking lot for the garage sale. The award for bargain hunter of Margaux’s First Garage Sale and Holiday Bazaar goes to, Joseph Grossman! At the end of the day the total was $2,500.
November 18, 2001 “Adopting” a Family
On November 18th Margaux’s Miracle “adopted” a family through the Children’s Home Society. “Adopting” a family means helping out a struggling family by giving them things they are in desperate need of, such as food and clothing. In our case, the family is a single mother with six children and a seventh on the way. Thanks to our members, in three days we accomplished getting them dishes and a Thanksgiving dinner. Our goal is to help this family throughout the year with the basics we take for granted.
October 24, 2001 Unity School’s Peace Day
This year, Peace Day at Unity School of Delray Beach was dedicated to Margaux Grossman. During the Peace Day ceremony Margaux’s Miracle was honored for keeping Margaux’s spirit alive, along with doing good works in her honor. We shared our miracles with the students, teachers and parents, most of whom knew Margaux from her years as a student at Unity.

October 20th, 2001 Coastal Cleanup
Four of the miracle workers participated in the 2001 International Coastal Cleanup, locally at Red Reef Park. This cleanup is hosted annually around the world. We collected four garbage bags of trash and completed a survey. The survey will help the Ocean Conservancy raise awareness of the impact trash has on the worlds oceans and beaches.
October 1st-5th, 2001 Book Drive at Spanish River High School
Cherrie and Jessie, both students of Spanish River High School organized a school wide book drive. They collected a total of 1,167 books! The gently used books will be donated to child development centers locally to benefit disadvantaged children. The new books will be used as part of theme gift baskets that will be given to needy children during the holiday season.
September 27th and 29th, 2001 Quilting at Penelope’s Breads and Threads
With eight girls participating, we completed six baby quilts in just two days with the help of Penny and Bebby of Penelope’s Breads and Threads. Four of the baby quilts will be donated to local shelters for ill and traumatized infants and two will be donated to national organizations.
September 9th, 2001 Book Drive
For our first Margaux’s Miracle meeting we asked that everyone bring used or new books for us to donate to centers for underprivileged children in the area. We collected 100 books! All of the books were donated to the Florence Fuller Child Development Center in Boca Raton.
